Geographically, Lom is located right in the middle between Oslo, Bergen and Trondheim, and is one of the best starting points to experience both mountain Norway and the western part of Norway -- 1.5-hour drive to the fjords, 1.5 hours to Geiranger and 5 hours from Oslo, Trondheim and Bergen. Lom is at the heart of Jotunheimen, and you can choose from more than 50 marked DNT (Norwegian Mountain Touring Association) trails, or if you would like a better view of this magnificent landscape hike up to one of the more than 150 two-thousand-metre-plus peaks. But Lom has much more than just nature to offer visitors. Old wooden buildings are well preserved here, as are established cultural customs and traditions. Lom and Skjåk are among the sites receiving the least amount of precipitation in all of Norway, with only 270 millimetres of precipitation per year! An old, local saying has it that if God could just provide us with some sun, then we can easily find water ourselves.

Jotunheimen nasjonalpark
The Jotunheimen National Park was established in 1980 and covers an area equivalent to 1150sq. kilometres. 52% of the park is in Lom local authority. Information boards have been installed at the main approaches into the park. The national park is the most mountainous landscape in Norway, featuring the 27 highest mountain peaks in the country. In addition to high mountains, the national park also has many fertile valleys, a number of glaciers and several large lakes. Within the park, there is a wide-range of recreational activities to choose from, as well as many tourist lodges and a number of marked trails.
